If butterflies don’t fly

The silk moth (Bombyx Mori) is a butterfly from whose cocoon silk is spun. A video documents the attempt to teach a silk butterfly to fly. It is an attempt at impossibility. The butterfly‘s natural ability to fly has been lost as a result of the industrial mass production of silk and the associated domestication, overbreeding and incest.

Working with traditional and industrial methods of textile raw material processing of wool and silk resulted in several works of an installation. They were shown on the occasion of the group exhibition “Pattern Recognition” in June 2019 in the Gross-Siegharts art factory.
